Hemmer Feet Set for 7mm Sewing Machine Models

The Hemmer Foot (occassionally called the ‘Rolled Hem Foot’) is used to stitch the narrow rolled hems usually found on shirt tails, table linens and along the edge of frills. The hemmer is designed with a scroll shaped feeder on top and a straight groove on the underside which determines the width of the finished hem.

Tips for Using the Hemmer Feet Set on a Janome Sewing Machine

Supplies Required:

  • Janome Sewing Machine
  • Hemmer Foot (Narrow or Wide)
  • Fabric
  • Sewing threads and bobbin
  • Fabric Marker / Chalk
  • Iron
  • Fabric Guide (Optional)

Tips:

  1. Before sewing, fold and iron the edge of the fabric for the first 10cms (with the desired width). Then fold and iron the same area one more time. This will make it easier to start the roll with the foot. 
  2. Start with a locking stitch or one stitch forward and then backwards. This will further simplify the start of the rolled hem. Once the stitch is placed, guide the fabric into the scroll-shaped feeder.
  3. Sew Slowly. As this is a narrow hem, focus on keeping the fabric as straight as possible. It can be beneficial to use fabric guides and chalk.

Additional Tip: If the fabric is very light, place a piece of tissue paper between the fabric and the needle plate when sewing. This will prevent the material from being pushed into the needle well. Once you have finish, you can remove the paper. 

You are now ready to finish your edges with a professional touch.
