Concealed Zipper Foot for 9mm Models

Seen on after-five gowns, dresses, and even homewares, the invisible zipper creates a high-end finish for any application. While typically thought of as a difficult technique, sewing in these zippers is made easier with the Concealed Zipper Foot by Premium Accessories. With specially crafted channels that hold and manoeuvre the zipper’s teeth (allowing you to stitch on the edge) you can achieve zips that look like they are part of the seam.

Tips for Sewing Invisible Zippers on a Janome Sewing Machine

Supplies Required:

  • Janome Sewing Machine
  • Concealed Zipper Foot
  • Invisible Zip (Colour matched to fabric)
  • Fabric
  • Sewing thread and bobbin
  • Fabric Marker / Chalk
  • Scissors

Tips:

  1. Do not sew the seam first. Stitch the zipper into the seam allowance on both sides of the seam and then close to zip to bring the sides together. Then finish the rest of the seam.
  2. Always buy a zipper that is longer than the zipper length intended for the project. It is easier to cut and re-close the zip than to work with a shorter zip than needed.
  3. Mark your seam allowances so that you know exactly where the zipper will be placed on both sides of the seam.
  4. Stitch slowly and practice often. With a spare invisible zipper and some scrap fabric practice the technique. Stitching invisible zippers are like riding a bicycle, it takes a little bit to learn, but once you have mastered it, it is second nature.

You are now ready to add an invisible zip to your next project.
