Stitchingtons Jumbo Bobbins for the Janome HD9 V2

The Janome HD9 v2 is a fantastic purpose-built quilting machine, and it is one of the fastest Janome model available, it makes sense that it would take a larger bobbin. The “Jumbo Bobbin” (as Janome have aptly named it) holds 1.4 times the capacity of the standard Janome plastic bobbin. However, as the HD9 is the only machine designed for this special bobbin, they are an investment when you have to buy spares. This is where Stitchingtons comes in. This North American Sewing Machine Parts and Accessories Brand have just released their own version of the Jumbo Bobbin for the Janome HD-9 V2, and we have been lucky enough to be one of a few Australian dealerships to get early access to this product. So, we thought that we would test it out and see what the hype around this bobbin and the brand were all about.
But before we get to our test, we thought we would quickly look at the Stitchingtons Brand. Crafting high-quality sewing machine parts in North America, they have just started to break into the Australian Market. Carving a niche in the market by creating affordable sewing machine part and accessories that meet or exceed the original manufacturer’s specifications, they have seen amazing success overseas and they have just started producing a new series of HD-9 V2 Bobbins at an unheard-of price.
A closer look at the HD9 V2 bobbin
Looking closely at this bobbin, we noted that it is the same height, diameter, and depth as the original version. Instead of flat sides, this bobbin offers “flared” edges that are designed to optimise the thread delivery from the bobbin.

How does it handle the Janome Bobbin Winder?
Before we could test this bobbins ability to stitch, we first wound a few to ensure that the Stitchingtons Hd9 V2 Bobbin is fully compatible with the Janome HD9 V2 Machine. Threading it up normally was a breeze, and what surprised us was that not only did this bobbin wind evenly and smoothly, it has a similar capacity to its Janome counterpart.
What is the Finished Stitch Quality?
Now we are in the most important part of any product test, how does it sew? Here is a sample of a row of stitching using the Janome and Stitchingtons Bobbins side by side. Can you tell the difference? We could not (the top stitch is using this new bobbin, while below is the Janome version). True to their word, this bobbin smoothly released the thread while remaining as quiet as you would expect.
Would using a different brand’s bobbin affect my Janome Warranty?
Unlike a cheap copy, these fantastic sewing bobbins for the Janome HD9 have been specially crafted to meet Janome’s stringent product specifications and as such, they can be safely used in your Janome HD9 without affecting your warranty.
Final thoughts on the Stitchington’s Jumbo Bobbins
As this bobbin not only meets all of the required technical specifications for the Janome HD9, and produces a fantastic stitch AND is over 35% cheaper than the Janome alternative, we would rate this bobbin 5 Stars!
